Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage To Feature Another Young Sheldon Actor

Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage has featured various characters from Young Sheldon. As the sitcom runs into 2025, Matt Hobby will reprise his role as Pastor Jeff.
Per TV Line, Hobby will appear in an episode titled “A House Divided” alongside Zoe Perry as Georgie’s mother, Mary Cooper and Rachel Bay Jones as Mandy’s mother, Audrey. According to series co-creator Steve Holland, the story will see the pair “competing for their granddaughter’s love,” while Pastor Jeff tries his best to mediate the complicated situation.
“Mary and Audrey butt heads, they don’t see eye to eye, and that’s a fun thing we haven’t gotten to explore,” Holland explained. “To put them head to head felt like a really fun episode to do. And when we were breaking that story, it also seemed like a great chance to bring Matt Hobby back. It was so much fun to have him, and so much fun to put [those characters] in front of an audience and get a little Pastor Jeff sprinkled in our lives again.”
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is the third television series in The Big Bang Theory franchise. Set in 1994, the series chronicles the marriage of the titular characters (played by Montana Jordan and Emily Osment) as they raise their infant daughter CeCe. Other actors who have reprised their roles from Young Sheldon, along with Perry and Jones, are Will Sasso as Jim, Reagan Revord as Missy, Craig T. Nelson as Dale, and Annie Potts as Meemaw.
Sheldon Cooper May Not Appear In The Spinoff
While the series will likely not feature many appearances from Sheldon Cooper, Iain Armitage, who portrayed the character in The Big Bang Theory spinoff, is open to reprising his role. “If I got a call to go back, that’d be so much fun. I’d be honored to,” he said. “I’m also just excited to get to sit back on my couch with some popcorn and watch their show because they’re so good. But I could totally see myself getting in the khakis again, putting on the old penny loafers and bow tie, and going back.”
It seems unlikely that Armitage will get to play Sheldon again, since the character’s adventures in California were documented in The Big Bang Theory by actor Jim Parsons, who originated the role. That’s probably why Sheldon did not make an appearance during the Georgie & Mandy’s Thanksgiving special. According to Holland, Armitage was left out of the episode because including him was “actually going to hurt this story.”
“Often, when a matriarch or a patriarch passes away, the family can splinter, and that’s what is happening here,” Holland explained. “And as fun as it would have been to see him, it felt like there is no world where that family doesn’t get together, and Mary doesn’t celebrate Thanksgiving, if Sheldon is coming back from California. So, it seemed to make ‘Sheldon sense’ that he didn’t come back, and it made sense for the story we were trying to tell.”
