Young Sheldon: Iain Armitage’s Unforgettable Reaction to CBS Series Finale

Young Sheldon wasn’t just CBS’s most popular sitcom during its run from 2017 to 2024; it was also one of the most-watched comedies on TV and streaming platforms. Its finale in the seventh season, though anticipated, sparked reactions among fans and cast members. The most notable was from its lead, Iain Armitage, who portrayed young Sheldon Cooper for seven seasons.
In November 2023, after months of waiting due to the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and SAG-AFTRA strikes, CBS announced that the family comedy and prequel spin-off of The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, would conclude with its seventh season. Actor Iain Armitage reacted by posting a photo with a heartfelt message on his Instagram account.
“In case you’re wondering, I love my family. There are about 200 more people who make @youngsheldoncbs happen, and I’m grateful for each one of them. We’re going to make the best 7th season we can, and behind the scenes, there will be lots of laughs and tears because I love all these people so much,” Armitage wrote.

As expected, the main driver behind the decision to end the spin-off in its seventh season was the canon established by the original series, The Big Bang Theory. As a prequel, Young Sheldon fulfilled the expected conclusion, determined when Sheldon Cooper returns from his summer trip to Germany and has one year of studies left before moving to Pasadena to work at Caltech University.

As the seasons progressed, the crucial events in young Sheldon Cooper’s life, brilliantly portrayed by Iain Armitage, were already known to fans of The Big Bang Theory. This included the painful loss of his father and his early entry into college, factors that limited the series’ indefinite extension.
Despite the closure of Young Sheldon, fans can enjoy the spin-off titled Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, which premiered on October 17, 2024, on CBS. The comedy aims to continue exploring the expanded universe of The Big Bang Theory, with much of the cast that brought Sheldon’s family to life, including Montana Jordan as Georgie Cooper, Zoe Perry as Mary Cooper, Annie Potts as Connie Tucker “Meemaw,” and Raegan Revord as Missy Cooper, among other new faces.
