One of My Favorite Shows Is #5 on Netflix (& There’s a ‘Gilmore Girls’ Connection)

Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory is one of the most fascinating characters I have ever watched. He’s got a genius-level IQ, he lacks social awareness and he has a major superiority complex. But then there are moments when I catch the tiniest glimpse of genuine humanity, and there’s a depth to him that starts to emerge on the show. For this reason, I often wondered what he was like as a child. Was he always so snooty? Did he ever fail in school? How in the world did his family deal with his antics?
Fortunately for me, the brilliant…that addresses those questions—and now, it’s one of…The seventh and final season of Young Sheldon was finally added to the streaming service, and now, it’s number five on Netflix’s top ten list of shows, surpassing titles like The Gardener, North of North and Love on the Spectrum.
In case you’ve yet to watch the sitcom, it focuses on Sheldon’s upbringing in East Texas during the late ’80s, depicting his unique experiences as a 9-year-old high schooler who often clashed with his religious mom and rebellious twin sister.
Iain Armitage stars as the young genius, and his parents, Mary and George Cooper, are portrayed by Zoe Perry and Lance Barber. (FYI, if the latter looks familiar, it’s because you may have also spotted him in Gilmore Girls, where he appeared as Hugo Gray and the Man at Inn.) Other cast members include Montana Jordan, Raegan Revord, Annie Potts and Matt Hobby, with Jim Parsons serving as the narrator.
While speaking with…about the show’s success, Lorre said, “It very quickly became an ensemble, a family show about how this little boy changes the family and the family impacts on him. It got a lot richer and warmer as a result of not making it about Sheldon [as much as it is] about his entire environment.”

It’s worth noting that the final season of the spin-off was met with rave reviews from critics and boasts a perfect score…called the two-part finale a “master class on weaving comedy with grief and regrets,” while CBR writer…called Young Sheldon “the pinnacle of a sitcom spinoff, even surpassing The Big Bang Theory with its polished comedy about a dysfunctional family.”
Having binge-watched the entirety of the series, I can attest to the compelling characters and relatable family dynamics. It’s no wonder so many fans are flocking to Netflix to relive Sheldon’s final moments before heading to Caltech.
